Our client is a global leader in the drilling services and equipment technology sector with over 130 years of history. This role offers the unique opportunity to work on the frontlines of percussive drilling technology, directly supporting field teams and customers throughout the Western U.S. You’ll play a crucial part in helping clients implement, trial, and optimize tooling solutions, laying the groundwork for a potential future in technical sales.
Key Responsibilities
As a Percussive Drilling Technician, you will help support our field teams and customers with all things Percussive Tooling related. The position would be highly suited for someone who wants to progress to a career in Sales. This person will be travelling across the Western U.S. 50% of their work time visiting customers and following the trial schedule. Your responsibilities will include:
Technical Field Support:
- Install, test, and troubleshoot percussive tooling at customer sites to ensure optimal performance.
- Provide technical insights and recommendations that improve equipment reliability and drill site productivity.
Customer Engagement & Trial Support:
- Work closely with customers during product trials to monitor performance, gather data, and ensure proper usage.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and sales teams to refine tooling solutions based on real-world feedback.
Training & Product Knowledge Sharing:
- Deliver informal training sessions and on-site demonstrations to client teams to build knowledge and confidence in tooling systems.
- Act as a go-to expert for percussive drilling equipment, keeping stakeholders informed about best practices and innovations.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams—including R&D, product management, and sales—to share field insights.
- Maintain accurate records of service visits, performance metrics, and customer feedback to support continuous improvement.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
Education & Experience:
- A diploma or technical certification in mechanical, mining, or drilling-related fields is an asset.
- 2–4 years of experience in drilling operations, field service, or technical support roles, preferably within the mining or construction sectors.
Technical Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with drilling or mining equipment.
- Familiarity with percussive tooling, down-the-hole (DTH), and top hammer systems is a definite advantage.
Key Competencies:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with field teams and clients.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and work independently in remote environments.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time across the Western U.S., often in rugged outdoor conditions.
