The Opportunity


Executrade is pleased to partner with our not for profit client located in Winnipeg, Manitoba in their search for a VP, People & Culture to join their team for a 4 month contract opportunity.   If you are a strategic and adaptable leader who is able to hit the ground running and enjoys working in a collaborative environment this may be the position for you! 

This position is responsible for all People, Leadership, and Culture activities which includes all policies/training related to Diversity, Equity, Including and Belonging, compensation and payroll, benefits, staffing, employee relations, HR systems, legal issues, regulatory compliance and training/development functions. Tasks will include:


Key Account Responsibilities and Functions


  • Work collaboratively with the CEO to ensure equity, diversity and including is the foundational within the People & Culture Strategy.
  • Lead in the development of the organizational strategic people, leadership, and culture strategy to ensure adequate skilled resources are available to meet organisational needs.
  • Provide guidance and oversight in managing various group benefit programs (includes cost analysis; renewal negotiations, scrutinizing master agreement/contract documentation, analyzing, and executing carrier transition while mitigating risk and exposure).  
  • Ensure the organization is abreast of market trends, salary data and other relevant data, participating in surveys, conferences, etc. as required.
  • Responsible for the development and management of the department budget.
  • Facilitate and oversee change management efforts with ongoing HR transformation initiatives to enhance functionality of systems and processes.
  • Facilitate, manage and resolve complex employee issues by conducting effective, thorough and objective investigations while writing concise and legally defensible documentation when warranted.
  • Diagnose, re-engineer and execute various programs, processes, policies and services related to resource planning, succession management, retention, employee development, compensation and benefits, employee engagement and recognition, performance management and learning and development.  
  • Additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive advancement and executive experience across several HR functions.
  • Proven and successful experience in leading a team of HR Professionals.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field.
  • CPHR Designation is a requirement.
  • Experience in the not for profit sector a strong asset.
  • Strong legal and technical background to assess risk and implement solutions.
  • Expert knowledge in Manitoba Employment Standards, Human Rights and other relevant legislation.
  • Experience in Ontario Employment Standards an asset.
  • Experience in contract negotiations and management, financial management, budgeting, and reporting is required.
  • Experience in change intervention, re-designing processes, implementing technological systems and identifying optimization opportunities.
  • Exposure in managing large end to end cross functional initiatives is a strong asset.
  • Advanced MS Office skills and experience with UKG or other HRIS platforms.
  • Ability to travel across the Winnipeg area to multiple sites.
  • Must have a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Persons Check.


Compensation and Benefits


  • Salary will be based on experience. Position is available to start immediately.
